About the Center

The dive center, Great White Sharks of Guadalupe Island, located on Guadalupe Island, Mexico, offers an unforgettable great white shark diving experience. Certified by SSI, the center specializes in courses such as Rescue Diver, Divemaster, and Boat Diving. Its facilities include showers, WiFi, a bar, accommodation, a swimming pool, equipment rental, a dive shop, and air fills (nitrox).

The center's primary activity involves diving in unique submersible cages designed for natural and safe interaction with great white sharks. Dives take place at depths where the sharks naturally congregate, offering up to 3 dives per day with virtually unlimited dive time. The exceptional visibility of the crystal-clear water and the presence of 366 identified great white sharks guarantee close and thrilling encounters.

Currently, due to actions by the Government of Mexico, Guadalupe Island is temporarily closed for tourism and great white shark diving. The center keeps its clients updated through newsletters and offers exciting alternatives such as expeditions to Socorro for giant manta and shark encounters, and to Cocos, the Island of the Sharks. The center assures that future openings will be communicated, and in the meantime, invites exploration of other shark encounter destinations.

Safety is paramount, with diving conducted using surface-supplied air (hookah) systems and custom-designed cages that ensure the protection of both divers and sharks. Divers are required to remain within the cages at all times, and the use of weight harnesses depending on body weight and wetsuit type is recommended. Divers are accompanied by a divemaster to ensure safety and maximize shark sighting opportunities.

Frequently asked

What people ask before booking

Yes, all diving is done using a hookah system (surface-supplied air) and custom-designed cages that provide maximum protection for both divers and sharks. Divemasters accompany all dives for safety and to enhance shark sightings. Each cage is equipped with backup scuba gear for emergencies.

Guadalupe Island offers beautiful clear blue water with 100-150 feet (30-45 meters) of visibility, allowing for excellent viewing of the great white sharks from a distance.

Certified divers can expect an average of 3 dives per day in the submersible cages. The surface cages offer virtually unlimited diving time, allowing guests to spend as much time as they wish in the water with the sharks.

A 5-7mm wetsuit is generally adequate, with hoods, hooded vests, and extra gloves available for loan. Divers are recommended to use DUI weight harnesses with approximately 40 lbs of lead, depending on their weight and wetsuit type. Divemasters can assist with equipment.

In the event of temporary closures, such as the current one due to government action, the operators offer alternative shark encounter experiences in destinations like Socorro and Cocos Island. They also encourage subscribing to their newsletter for updates on Guadalupe's reopening.

Voyages are typically 5 nights/6 days, with three full days spent on station at Guadalupe Island to maximize shark encounters. Longer combo-trips of 10 or 15 nights are also available, combining Guadalupe with other destinations.
