About the Center

Beneath the Waves Freediving, located in Puerto del Carmen, Spain, is a dive center specializing in freediving and offering a comprehensive range of courses and experiences for all levels, from beginners to SSI-certified instructors. Led by experienced instructors Nico Decroix & Moya Lee, the center is dedicated to guiding students on their freediving journey, teaching essential skills such as stretching, breathing, relaxation, static apnea, finning techniques, duck dives, and equalization.

The center also offers reef exploration experiences, allowing participants to immerse themselves in the wonders of lava reefs and the vibrant marine life of Lanzarote. These excursions combine hands-on snorkeling with the thrill of discovering breathtaking underwater landscapes and a rich variety of sea creatures. It's an excellent way to connect with the ocean and appreciate its complexity and beauty, offering a blend of adventure and relaxation.

For those looking to advance their skills, Beneath the Waves provides freediving courses ranging from the AIDA 2 Course, where techniques like free-fall and Frenzel equalization are taught, to the AIDA 3 Course, which delves into more advanced techniques for greater depths. These courses include practical training in static and dynamic apnea, free immersion, and constant weight, complemented by theoretical knowledge of physiology and safety.

Beneath the Waves Freediving is equipped with facilities including lockers, a bar, equipment rental, a dive shop, and air fills (including nitrox). They also facilitate boat diving and airport transfers. The center operates seven days a week from 8 am to 7 pm and welcomes clients in French, German, Russian, and Ukrainian, in addition to Spanish.

What people ask before booking

For the Introduction to Freediving and AIDA courses, participants must be 18 years or older. Those aged 16 or 17 can participate with written consent from a parent or guardian.

For the Introduction to Freediving, you need to swim at least 100m non-stop. For the AIDA 2 and AIDA 3 courses, participants must be able to swim 200 meters without stopping.

All necessary spearfishing equipment is provided for the spearfishing courses and guided sessions. The focus is on personalized instruction and exploring local underwater environments.

The Introduction to Freediving experience lasts 3.5 hours and costs €115. It provides a taste of freediving fundamentals without certification.

To enroll in the AIDA 3 course, you must have completed the AIDA 2 course or an equivalent crossover evaluation from another agency. Specific performance requirements in static apnea, dynamic apnea, and constant weight bi-fins must also be met.
