About the Center
Gerda's Dive Shop in Munich has been a fixture in the diving community since 1992. They offer a comprehensive range of diving courses certified by PADI, SSI, and TDI, including Advanced Open Water, Enriched Air Nitrox, and Snorkeling. The shop also provides essential services such as equipment rental, air fills (including nitrox), and facilities for shore diving.
Their facilities include a swimming pool, ideal for training and practice, and a bar that serves as a social hub for divers. Gerda's Dive Shop actively organizes events and trips, utilizing new communication platforms to keep customers informed and enhance interaction, ensuring a dynamic dive community.
A strong emphasis is placed on education, with a variety of course offerings from beginner levels to specializations. They have recently introduced Apnea courses, further expanding their educational portfolio. The shop's opening hours have been adjusted for better customer service, featuring set times and the option for appointments.
In addition to diving, Gerda's Dive Shop also supports snorkeling enthusiasts with dedicated training sessions. Complementing their in-person offerings, they provide eLearning courses from PADI and SSI, allowing for flexible learning anytime and anywhere.
Available Courses
6 cursosS.U.B. Master Diver
This is the rescue and safety course in the S.U.B. (Süddeutscher Tauchclub) track — the German national federation route alongside PADI and SSI at Gerda's. At €450 it's the most substantial of the S.U.B. specialty brevets offered by the shop. The course covers emergency response, rescue procedures and handling dive incidents — the same core competencies as a PADI Rescue Diver or SSI Stress & Rescue, but certified through the German federation. For divers who dive primarily with local clubs affiliated to S.U.B., this brevet carries direct recognition within that network. Gerda and Eddy have been teaching S.U.B. courses since the shop opened in 1992, so the programme is well-embedded in the school's curriculum rather than a recent addition. Eddy also holds EFR Instructor status, which feeds into the emergency response component. The S.U.B. track at this shop runs from Open Water through Master Diver and Dive Leader, so the rescue course sits within a complete progression path if you're following the federation route.
Scuba Review (Auffrischungskurs)
The Scuba Review at Gerda's is aimed at certified divers who haven't been in the water for a while and want to shake off the rust before heading back out. The whole thing is done in a day — pool session at the Olympiabad München with equipment provided. It covers the practical skills that tend to fade fastest: buoyancy, regulator recovery, mask clearing. No theory exam, no paperwork — just time in the water with an instructor until you feel comfortable again. At €200 it's the same price as the Discover Scuba session, and the format is similar: instructor-led, pool-based, single session. Equipment rental is included. If you're a certified diver returning after a longer break and thinking about joining a group trip or a dive excursion to the Blindsee, this is the sensible step before signing up.
Open Water Diver
Theory sessions for the Open Water start on the first Thursday of each month at the shop — fixed schedule, no waiting for a class to fill up. Pool work is at the Olympiabad München, with five sessions running up to 3–5 hours total. Open water takes place over two days at the Badepark Bad Wiessee, with four open water dives completing the certification. The course runs under PADI and is available from age 10 (Junior Open Water Diver). Equipment rental is included in the price, so you don't need to own gear to get certified. ABC equipment — mask, snorkel, fins, boots and gloves — is not included but can be purchased at a student discount through the shop. Three pricing tiers: €680 with classroom theory, €500 using PADI eLearning, or €350 for eLearning with pool sessions only (no open water component at that price). Nitrox certification can be added on top of the Open Water at the time of booking. Group pricing is available on request. All enrolments require the standard VDST dive medical.
Discover Scuba Diver
The Discover Scuba Diving session at Gerda's runs in the pool at the Olympiabad München, giving first-timers a controlled, instructor-led introduction to breathing underwater before committing to a full course. It's a pool-only session — no open water component — which makes it a low-pressure way to find out whether scuba is for you. If you go ahead and book the full Open Water Diver course afterwards, €40 from the Discover Scuba fee gets credited toward the full course price. That makes it a sensible stepping stone rather than a standalone cost. Gerda and Eddy run the session themselves, so you're in the water with the people who've been teaching here since the 1990s. No large groups, no outsourced instruction. Medical certificate per VDST guidelines is required even for the introductory session.
SSI Enriched Air Nitrox Level 1 + 2
The Nitrox course at Gerda's runs in two formats. The theory-only option covers the EAN manual, tables and certification for €190 — no dives included. If you want the complete package with two guided dives and equipment rental, that's €390. The two-stage programme mirrors PADI's current structure: Stage 1 covers Discover Enriched Air NITROX up to 32% (including a hands-on workshop for analysing tank contents), and Stage 2 extends to full PADI Enriched Air Diver certification with planning for NITROX 32 and NITROX 36, and the ability to dive mixes up to 40% O2. The shop fills nitrox in-house, so certification here gives you direct access to the fill station. Tank prices run from €12 to €18 per fill depending on cylinder size, with 10-fill subscriptions available at a discount. This specialty can be added to the Open Water or Advanced Open Water courses at the time of enrolment — useful if you want to sort the certification before your first mixed-gas dive rather than retrofitting it later.
Apnoe Kurs (Freediving) mit Daniel
The apnea programme is run by Daniel Pitzke, SSI Instructor, and combines two pool sessions with one full open water day. At €245 for the complete course, it sits comfortably alongside the shop's scuba curriculum as a standalone option — not just an add-on for already-certified divers. Pool sessions give you the basic breath-hold and equalisation technique in a controlled environment before moving to open water. The lake setting for open water — likely the Tegernsee area given the shop's base there — offers calm, cold water conditions that are typical for Bavarian freediving. This is a relatively new addition to the Gerda's programme, taught independently from the main PADI/SSI scuba track. Bookings go through the shop directly at 089/161465. No prior dive certification is required for the apnea course specifically, though the standard VDST medical requirement applies across all Gerda's programmes.
