Description du Cours
The baptême at URSRSA takes place in the Piscine Garibaldi during the club's Wednesday evening sessions, or on dedicated baptême evenings organised at the start of the season. It is the entry point for anyone who has never tried scuba — no experience required, no certification needed beforehand. Reservation is mandatory; walk-ins are not accepted for these sessions.
The minimum age is 8 years old, and the text states explicitly that anyone can try. The session covers the basics of breathing underwater with a constant air supply, buoyancy awareness and movement in the pool environment — all under direct supervision in the shallow end of the Garibaldi pool. It is a single-session introduction rather than a multi-day course.
For those who want to move on to full certification after the baptême, the Niveau 1 course is the logical next step within the URSRSA training ladder. The club holds its baptême evenings in September and October to coincide with the season start, giving new members a low-commitment way to experience the club before signing up for a full course or annual membership.
The baptême is conducted in French, consistent with the club's operating language throughout all its training activities under FFESSM.
